Antioxidant and nontoxic precursor of vitamin A.  When combined with vitamin E there is a
synergistic
anti-tumor effect.  Beta carotene and other carotenoids reported to have anti-cancer properties not related to vitamin A.  Boosts immunity and helps prevent cataracts. Sources are broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, kale, pumpkin, spinach, squash (Hubbard & butternuts), sweet potatoes, apricots and others.  Conversion to vitamin A requires vitamin C, zinc, thyroid hormone and protein.
