Deficiency raises blood pressure, increases LDL cholesterol, causes abnormal electrocardiograms, and some types of anemia. Protects against cancer (see note 2) and provides relief from pain and joint stiffness similar to arthritis. Vitamin C, zinc, iron and other minerals may hinder absorption. Excess copper lowers zinc level while excess zinc lowers copper level. The optimum ratio of copper to zinc is 1:10. Maximum copper supplement should not exceed 3 milligrams per day unless more is required to maintain the copper to zinc ratio. (27) Toxic at 15 mg per day. See note 8.
