Current issue here  "The Journal of Nutrition continues to have as its goal the publication of papers based on original nutrition research in humans and other animal species. In circulation since 1928, it is the official monthly publication of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences. It is distributed to more than 4,500 subscribers worldwide. The Journal publishes original research reported by authors in over 30 countries..."

J. A. Brohart, author of the web site Autism Help For You, says of the site:
"To learn how nutrition impacts the autistic child, visit http://www.autismhelpforyou.com.  This site addresses many topics related to autism, including nutrition/supplement/diet issues and how they are key in recovering autistic children.  This site provides one family's story of hope in dealing with this disorder and steers parents to key information to help with early recovery."  Not much that I can add to that, except to say that it contains the complete text of her book "Saving Zachary: The Death and Rebirth of a Family Coping With Autism", a well written account of her experiences with her autistic son.

A relatively simple to use tool to keep track of the number of calories and the nutrients in the foods you consume each day.

Numerous articles on health and nutrition.  In their words: "The Doctors' Medical Library is a network of over 225 integrated web sites containing enough information to constitute a complete course of study in natural medicine."

Web site of Dr. Andrew Saul, specialist in natural healing and author of several books on the subject, including DOCTOR YOURSELF and PAPERBACK CLINIC.  Much useful information, numerous references and plenty of good advice.  Simple layout, easy to navigate.  Well worth a visit.
Click here to subscribe to Dr. Saul's "DOCTOR YOURSELF NEWSLETTER".  Not too dry or technical, it's packed with information, spiced with humor and personal anecdotes.  Click here to view a sample.

Way more links here than I've had a chance to look at.  Many thanks to Craig Edwards and the folks at the Flinders University Nutrition and Dietetics Department.

"Promoting healthy aging"  We're all getting older whether we like to admit it or not.

A little off the subject of Nutrition, HealthyPlace.com is a quality site providing information, as well as support for individuals and their loved ones who are experiencing the effects of psychological disorders.

Current issue here  Yes, I know the AMA is not popular among many nutrition buffs.  I just provide the link.  I leave it to you decide what you think is of value.

The JCI is the publication of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, an honor society of physician-scientists.

Journal of medical research.  Excelent resource, extensive archives.  Well worth a visit.

"Medic8 is a leading medical portal for healthcare professionals and consumers around the world... Medic8 is an independent website which provides quick, easy access to the best medical resources on the internet. All websites in the Medic8 directory are peer-reviewed for suitability prior to listing."  That's what they say.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Health Information
A service of the National Library of Medicine | National Institutes of Health

The Merck Manual is the most widely used medical text in the world.

Another one bites the dust... "HealthGate Data Corp. has acquired natural health content provider The Natural Pharmacist (TNP)..."  Apparently they've gone commercial - none of the links work anymore, but they generously provide information on how to purchase their services: http://tnp.healthgate.com/buy.html. If you don't sense a bit of cynicism here then perhaps I'm being too subtle, but I guess I lack the knack for writing
scathing
commentary.  Look for all links to The Natural Pharmacist to disappear soon.
Once upon a time...
In their words "...access to the most trustworthy and scientifically accurate information on natural health topics anywhere."  A challenging goal, but one they're obviously taking seriously.

Latest news on natural foods and food supplements.  Searchable.  Lots of good info here.

Provides a custom nutritional analysis based on age, gender, and whether or not you're pregnant or lactating.  Enter a single food item or a whole days worth.  Includes selected foods from fast food restaurants.  Simple to use, but be sure to click the "Display all Nutrients" button on the Analysis Results page or the list is very limited.

Absolutely, and by far the best website I've found for assisting the lay person to understand medical terminology.

T.D. Holtjer's web site offers personal views, insight and advice related to dealing with Bipolar Disorder.  Link to English language page here.

A Rating Guide to Nutrition Websites
Unfortunately, they don't yet incude a rating of this web site (as of April 22, 2002)...  or maybe it is fortunate, depending on what their opinion will be.  :-)

The NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. NIH works toward that mission by:
-conducting research in its own laboratories;
-supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities, medical schools,
  hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad;
-helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of medical
  information.

The ODS supports research and disseminates research results in the area of dietary
          supplements.

"Mission:  To develop authoritative food composition databases and state of the art methods to acquire, evaluate, compile and disseminate composition data on foods available in the United States."

Simple web interface to the USDA Nutrient Database, providing information on nutritional content of foods.  Searchable by food name.

Information about health fraud schemes, and health care products and services.
"Be wary of unscrupulous marketers who use cyberspace to peddle "miracle" treatments and cures to vulnerable consumers. Many of the ads and websites, which feature exotic potions and pills, special curative diets, strange magnetic or electrical devices, or newly discovered treatments, contain questionable claims about the effectiveness and safety of these products or services..."

Very good general interest health web site with news, message boards and links to a variety of other resources - a bit like a Yahoo for the health conscious, but with an extensive archive of health and nutrition related articles.  Try the site's search engine; my search for "arginine" returned 26 relevant articles from the WebMD archives.

OTHER LINKS

Several noteworthy, informative web sites having not one whit to do with nutrition.  Dedicated to the precept that "Man does not live by bread alone..."  You can probably find nutritional information, but you'll have to look for it.

They say it best... "Welcome to the laboratory that never sleeps!  MadSci Network represents a collective cranium of scientists providing answers to your questions. For good measure we provide a variety of oddities and other ends as well."

The Straight Dope
The irreverent Cecil Adams has been "fighting ignorance since 1973. (It's taking longer than we thought.)"

Urban Legends Reference Pages
If you ever receive an email message containing a touching or disconcerting story urging you to forward it to everyone you care about, or to everyone you know, check it out here first.

A website I created just for fun.  Nothing on it is true.  No, you can't get a safe tan in only three minutes, but I hope you'll at least find the guestbook somewhat amusing.  I did send email to Russian president Vladmir Putin offering him the position of SwedishMicrotan's first poster boy. He didn't respond.

ADVICE
Have nutrition related questions you would like answered by a pharmacist?  The E-Pharmacist, researcher, ex-professor and licensed pharmacist, will provide accurate and unbiased answers.

The E-Pharmacist's background includes teaching courses in herbal medicines, directing research students registered for doctorate and master's degrees, working as a consultant in forensic medicine, and recently as a private consultant for a website specializing in alternative medicines.

The E-Pharmacist is currently a practicing community Pharmacist with an ongoing involvement in nutritional studies.  He has also contributed to the list of web sites listed above.

I'm just adding this to improve my chances of getting indexed by Google.  Pay no attention to the link unless you're interested in the requirements for Automatic Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT-AF) on Commercial Jet Transports.

For personal use only.  Not for sale or hire.  Permission to make copies by you for you and your friends is hereby granted.  If you find this list to be of value a donation of $5.00 or any amount would be greatly appreciated.

You are advised to consult a knowledgeable physician before using any of the nutrients listed herein.  See note 10 for information on obtaining a list of this rare breed of medical doctors.
